Interest Rates Are Gonna Go Up For A Long Time

Q: where do you think yields are headed to on the benchmark 10-year Treasury?

I'm not a very good market timer and I'm on a very short term trader but I will tell you that interest rate in America (...) we've had very long cycles in the bond markets. Depending on how you look interest rates or bond prices started a bear market in 1946 which ended in 1981, you can tell that that's 35 years. Then in 1981 we started a bull market in bonds. Well that one is gone on for 36 years I'm 37 years.

So bull markets in America anyway have had a habit of being very long. So I would just suggest you that's it's already started turning and the interest rates are gonna go up for a long long time. If I told you how high, you would hang up, you would stop listening to me. So when the next bear market comes in bonds it's gonna be a doozy.

Central Banks: They Say It's All Going To Be OK

Since 2008 government debt around the world has doubled. Everybody has talked about austerity and how we're going to cut back spending and pay off the debt etcetera but the debt has doubled.

The debt at the American central bank has gone up five or six times in just nine years. This has never happened before in recorded history. Never, ever have interest rates been this low and they say it's all going to be okay. You better call the Tooth Fairy.

Investing: The Best Asian Market

The best overall market for me is China. That is why I have moved to Asia. You don't always buy the chinese market no matter the price but it's still 40 percent below its all time high.

Known reserves of oil are in decline all over the world except for fracking. The fracking buble burst, the fracking players had to slow down. Supplies are under duress worldwide for oil.

We have certainly seen the top in the bond market, there is no question about that. Bonds will probably be going lower for years to come.

Investing: Agriculture Commodities Are Less Vulnerable

Well, agriculture has been going down over the past several years. I would consider agriculture less vulnerable and perhaps even a place to make money on the upside because things have been down for so long.

India Will Be Worse Affected Than Other Markets

Nearly all markets will be affected in the same way especially India because Mr. Modi is now coming up with a capital gains tax. So now the Indian stock market has the problem of having gone up for a long time and for a long way and now you will have a capital gains tax. India will probably be worse affected than other markets.

The Reason For The Stock Market Correction

Whenever there is an overdue stock market correction people always look for a reason. I can give you some reasons: the main reason is that it has gone up too long, too far, too fast but interest rates are also going higher and there are problems in Washington with the government. There are many reasons. But essentially it is because it went up without a correction and now we are having one.

India Should Finally Open Up Their Economy

I'm looking for I would expect a three and a half of 4 percent deficit more this year I don't know if they'll announce that they'll probably announce 3 percent because they always make it sound better than it is so the deficits going to get bigger thinks it would make me happy would be opening up the Indian economy finally but they're not gonna do that and they're not gonna listen to me. India: The Debt Will Go Higher

As you know there's an election next year and like every election everywhere in the world throughout history everybody is going to get a little present. The debt will go higher the budget will not be balanced. They may say they're going to balance the budget but it's going to get worse. (WisdomTree India Earnings Fund ETF (EPI))

Gold: I Don't Think It Will Breakout

I don't think it's going to be a breakout year for gold. I still think there will be opportunities in the future to buy gold lower. It's been almost seven years since the high. Sometime in the next year or two I certainly expect for gold to make a low and then to start going higher and higher.

US Treasuries: How China Will Play

If I was in Chinese I would say "No, I'm going to wait until I need to play the card to start selling the US Treasuries." If they need to take an action they won't have any bonds to sell. At least if they own a lot of Treasury bonds they can say to America, "If you do that we're going to sell your bonds."

Everybody Should Be Selling US Treasuries

Everybody should be selling US Treasuries. We had a bull market since 1981, that's 36-37 years. I don't own any long term US Treasuries, everybody should be selling them for economic reasons as well as for any other reason that they might have. Market Report: Bitcoin, Crude Oil, Sector Investing

Crude Oil: Known Reserves, Fracking, Price

In my view, crude oil is making a bottom. It's a complicated bottom. We will look back someday and say, in 2014-2018 crude oil made its bottom. Known reserves of oil everywhere continue to decline except for fracking but the fracking bubble burst a few years ago. Now people know that fracking is not magic and that people can lose money in fracking.

Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies:

I repeat what I said about IBM and computers, the people who invent something do not necessarily become the ones who succeed but we do you that the world has a money problem.

Quote of the Day:

"Historically, you buy stocks when they're yielding 6 percent and selling at eight times earnings. You sell them when they're at 22 times earnings and yielding 2 percent." - Jim Rogers

Sector Investing: Agriculture

The agriculture sector has been a disaster for 35 years. Things are so bad. The average age of an American farmer is 58, the average age in Japan is 68. And do you know that the highest suicide rate in the UK is in the agricultural sector?

The importance of having a second passport:

“Over the next 20 years, being trapped with only one passport, you could suffer very badly.” - Jim Rogers speaking at the 11th Residence and Citizenship by Investment Conference in Hong Kong

Crude Oil: Price Outlook, Fracking

In my view, crude oil is making a bottom. It's a complicated bottom. We will look back someday and say, in 2014-2018 crude oil made its bottom. Known reserves of oil everywhere continue to decline except for fracking but the fracking bubble burst a few years ago.

Jim Rogers believes that high net worth individuals should have a backup plan and he explains why he thinks why it will be so important to get a second passport over the coming years.

“Over the next 20 years, being trapped with only one passport, you could suffer very badly.”

The Future of Bitcoin

In this short video interview Jim Rogers discusses the futures of Bitcoin, internet and money.

This is what Jim Rogers had to answer when asked if Bitcoin will be the dominant cryptocurrency going forward:

"I repeat what I said about IBM and computers, the people who invent something do not necessarily become the ones who succeed. We do you that the world has a money problem."

Bullish on Agriculture

Jim Rogers has recently shared his thoughts on the agriculture sector and explain why he is so bullish on agricultural commodities:

"No one wants to be a farmer anymore, as compared to the past, when farmers were like masters of the universe for a long period of time."

"The agriculture sector has been a disaster for 35 years. Things are so bad. The average age of an American farmer is 58, the average age in Japan is 68. And do you know that the highest suicide rate in the UK is in the agricultural sector?"

Bitcoin: The Risks of a Government Crackdown

Internet is gonna change everything we know. How it's going to evolve, I don't know. I do know that governments do not like to lose control, governments want to control everything.

The crypto people say,  "yes but we're smarter than the government" and they are, everybody's smarter than the government but the government has more guns than everybody else. So if the government wants to control money they will.

The Bullish Case For The US Dollar

In the past when America has given tax incentives to bring US Dollars home it has made the US Dollar go higher, certainly for a while. These tax laws have just changed and there are now incentives to bring US Dollars home. I suspect they people will bring the US Dollars home and I suspect the US Dollar will go higher especially as interest rates go higher.

Currencies: I'll Probably Buy More US Dollars

I own a lot of US Dollars. What happened last year in my view is a normal correction. You know, the US Dollar was extremely strong a while before that, made new highs, multi-year highs, so it's having a normal correction. I own the US Dollar and I will probably buy more.

Bitcoin: Is This A Bubble?

Jim Rogers recently answered the million dollar question, are crypto currencies in a bubble?

"There have been plenty of bubbles I have seen in my life but this one is a little strange, because at least when the dot-com bubble was around, those were companies that said they had a business. Even with the tulips (reached extraordinarily high levels and then dramatically collapsed in February 1637), supposedly they had a purpose and a use, I have never seen something quite like this."
